Track focus inside the apps you already use
Research does not stop being work because it happens in a browser. Switching tools can be part of the task, and a brief switch does not automatically trigger a Companion alert. drifty uses available activity context to classify sessions, so different uses of the same app can receive different labels. A mistaken label can be corrected.
- A software engineer may need a video explanation to understand an unfamiliar API.
- A designer may spend time gathering references inside the same browser used for unrelated reading.
- After continued drift, Companion can offer Return to focus, Take a break, or Not a drift. Return to focus brings back the last focus window or page when available; Take a break marks the interruption accordingly.
- Quiet hours pauses alerts, automatic closing, and focus celebrations during a chosen daily window. Activity tracking and the day review continue.

Choose the response during setup and change it later. Automatic close is optional and can cause unsaved work to be lost.

Is drifty a Pomodoro timer?
drifty’s focus tracking is based on captured Mac activity. You do not need to begin a timed work interval to record the day. You can use your own planned work and break schedule alongside it.
What should I do if useful research is labelled as drift?
Use Not a drift on the Companion card or open Classification to adjust the label. When a site contains both work and unrelated content, a specific correction is more useful than assigning the whole site one label.
Use focus tracking to support your work
An app can observe activity on your Mac, but it cannot directly observe concentration. Use labels as prompts for review and choose the response that suits your work.
